SYMBIOTIC SIDEWALKS

This fall Wonder Fair and the Secret Order of the Black Diamond will be creating Symbiotic Sidewalks in East Lawrence as a part of the Rebuilding East Ninth Project.

Symbiotic Sidewalks offers an opportunity for free sidewalk repairs to homeowners in East Lawrence, utilizing grant money to execute the original intent of the East Ninth project by improving some of the neighborhood’s most basic infrastructure. Our hope is to deepen residents' connection to their neighborhood with renovated sidewalks that intertwine art, community, and mystery. To do this we are seeking out homeowners in East Lawrence who are in real need of support for sidewalk repair.

Consideration for this project will be based on need. East Ninth recognizes systemic racism, ageism and classism. Special emphasis is being placed on supporting community members who face systemic oppression. This includes but is not limited to the BIPOC community, seniors, the disabled, those facing low income and those whose nondisabled family members are experiencing or are affected by incarceration. If this describes you or someone you love in the neighborhood, please apply below.

Applications close July 31, 2020. Based on our budget for this project, we expect to be able to repair between 2 and 5 sidewalks.

Homeowners in East Lawrence that are able to finance their own sidewalk repair and are potentially interested in being included in the creative component of the project may email paul@wonderfair.com for more details.
